I’m a lifelong student and have a passion to teach others eager to learn. I condensed my 15 years of product growth knowledge into a five part course to help product managers think holistically across the end-to-end user experience. I also enjoy mentoring product managers on how to be more effective at their jobs and help those aspiring to transition into product management.
I like to focus on the mindset of a product manager because there’s a lack of content that covers this topic well. To be truly successful, it’s important to think about the intangibles, soft skills, narratives, and how to use data to tie it all together to persuade the leadership team to invest in your projects.
I like to train product managers to think more like a CEO. Start with the business value and don’t be afraid to estimate the financial impact that your project is expected to have on the company. The key to getting a roadmap approved is presenting the content in a format that the leadership team can easily consume.
Product managers need to act like a salesperson and always be pitching. They need to realize that they are competing against other product managers and departments for company resources. The best articulated pitch will win the attention of decision makers and get the green light.
Product managers often believe that if they build it, customers will magically find the feature and use it. I like to emphasize the importance of defining a go-to-market strategy. Product managers need to figure out a way to get traction for their features without relying on the marketing department.
It’s best to start from the inside out and engage existing customers first, if possible. Product managers often launch a feature and move on to the next one without the proper follow-through. They should always track post-launch performance in order to iterate and increase adoption.
I cover these topics and many more in my course. I provide a framework, examples, and templates that have proven to work. Take a class risk free if you’re interested in learning more. See you there. :)
